Human Health Risk Assessment of polluted Soils in Northwest of Gonabad City, NE-Iran

Abstract :
In this study, human health risk assessment for toxic elements arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) has been carried out in the northwest of Gonabad. For this purpose, ten soil samples were collected from the study area and the concentration of heavy metals was measured through XRF analysis. In order to evaluate the human health risk, the equation provided by USEPA was used. The results indicate that the non-carcinogenic risk of arsenic, expressed as HQ (Hazard Quotient), and the Hazard Index (HI) from heavy metals in children through ingestion, were higher than other parameters. This study emphasizes the necessity of formulating effective strategies to reduce the pollution of elements in the northwest region of Gonabad.
