Abstract :
Dust containing a high amount of silica can cause malfunction of the respiratory system. In this study, the dust particles of Saleh-Abad city and 6 surrounding villages were subjected to XRD, SEM, and EDS analyse for mineralogy, particle size, and chemical composition, respectively. The results of these analyses show the abundance of quartz minerals in the samples, especially in the particles with 10 microns size and even less size in some cases. Silica in dust can cause several lung diseases such as silicosis, silicotuberculosis and lung cancer.
