Investigating the Impact of PM10 on Vegetation Cover in Khuzestan Province Utilizing Remote Sensing

Abstract :
Khuzestan Province is consistently exposed to particulate matter, which has detrimental effects not only on human health but also on plants. This study examines the impact of particulate matter on vegetation cover by analyzing data from air pollution (PM10) monitoring stations and satellite images corresponding to the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). By employing supervised classification, land use categories associated with vegetation cover were distinguished, followed by an assessment of the correlation between particulate matter and these categories using the Pearson correlation coefficient. The findings indicate that the irrigated agriculture land use category shows stronger correlation values between PM10 and NDVI compared to other land use categories associated with vegetation cover.
