Assessment of heavy metals pollution in atmospheric dust of Saleh Abad area (Northeast of Iran)

چکیده :
Dust is considered as a source of heavy metals (HMs) pollution in the environment, which may damage the human health in the long term. In order to evaluate the HMs pollution in the studied area, 14 dust samples were collected from Saleh-Abad city and 6 surrounding villages to be analysed by ICP-MS for concentration of heavy metals. The average concentration of cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) were 0.7ppm, 27ppm and 30.7ppm respectively. The mean values of geo-accumulation index (Igeo) and enrichment factor (EF) showed the order of Cd>Cu>Ni in the dust samples. Because of the "heavily to extremely contaminated" level of Cd in studied dust samples, human health risk assessment is necessary to be conducted in studied area.
